Verejnoprávnos

Verejnoprávnos, a Slovak term, translates to "public law" in English. It is a branch of law that governs the relationship between the state and its citizens, as well as the organization and functioning of state institutions. Public law encompasses a wide range of legal areas, including constitutional law, administrative law, criminal law, and tax law.

Constitutional law deals with the fundamental principles and framework of a state's governance, including the rights and responsibilities of citizens and the powers of government bodies. Administrative law regulates the activities of administrative agencies and their interactions with individuals and businesses. Criminal law defines offenses against the state and prescribes punishments for those who commit them. Tax law, another significant area of public law, governs the levying and collection of taxes by the state.

The core principle underlying public law is the supremacy of the public interest over private interests. This means that the state has the authority to act in ways that promote the common good, even if such actions may impinge on individual liberties to a certain extent. However, this authority is not absolute and is subject to legal constraints and judicial review to prevent abuses of power. Verejnoprávnos ensures that the state operates within a legal framework and that its actions are accountable to the citizens it serves.
