Verdensopbygning

Verdensopbygning refers to the structure and organization of the universe, encompassing both its physical and theoretical aspects. In the context of cosmology, it describes the large-scale properties of the universe, including its geometry, composition, and evolution. The universe is believed to be approximately 13.8 billion years old and has expanded from a hot, dense state known as the Big Bang.

The universe is composed of various components, primarily dark matter and dark energy, which together make up about 95% of its total mass-energy content. Ordinary matter, which constitutes stars, planets, and galaxies, accounts for only about 5%. Dark matter is thought to provide the gravitational scaffolding that holds galaxies together, while dark energy is believed to be responsible for the accelerated expansion of the universe.

The geometry of the universe is described by its curvature, which can be flat, positively curved (like a sphere), or negatively curved (like a saddle). Observations of the cosmic microwave background radiation and the distribution of galaxies suggest that the universe is very close to flat.

The structure of the universe is hierarchical, with galaxies forming clusters and superclusters, which are separated by vast voids. The largest known structures are the Great Wall and the Sloan Great Wall, which are vast filaments of galaxies stretching across hundreds of millions of light-years.

The theoretical framework for understanding the universe's structure is provided by the Lambda-CDM model, which combines the theory of general relativity with the concept of dark energy (represented by the cosmological constant, Λ) and cold dark matter (CDM). This model has been highly successful in explaining a wide range of cosmological observations.
