Ventilationskällor refer to the points or mechanisms through which air enters or leaves a building or a specific space. These sources are crucial for maintaining indoor air quality and thermal comfort. In a building context, natural ventilation sources include openable windows, doors, and deliberate air vents. These allow for the exchange of indoor air with outdoor air, driven by natural forces like wind pressure and temperature differences (stack effect). Mechanical ventilation sources, on the other hand, involve the use of fans and ductwork to actively supply fresh air and exhaust stale air. This can include exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens, as well as central ventilation systems that manage air intake and outflow for the entire building. Air leakage through cracks in the building envelope, such as around windows, doors, and electrical outlets, also acts as an unintentional ventilation source. The design and control of these ventilation sources significantly impact energy efficiency, as uncontrolled air leakage can lead to heat loss or gain.
