The city lies at the mouth of the Veima River and features a temperate maritime climate. Veima’s origins are traced to a medieval trade settlement. It developed as a market town in the 12th century and became the provincial capital in later centuries. The Old Quarter preserves fortifications, merchant houses, and a small harbor from the early era.
