Veiligheidsraadresolutie

Veiligheidsraadresolutie is a term used in Dutch to refer to a resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council. The Security Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, charged with maintaining international peace and security. Its decisions, known as resolutions, are legally binding on UN member states.

Resolutions are typically adopted by a vote of nine members, including the concurring votes of all five permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States). If any of the permanent members vote against a resolution, it is considered vetoed and does not pass.

The Security Council can pass resolutions on a wide range of issues, including authorizing the use of force, imposing sanctions, establishing peacekeeping operations, and referring situations to the International Criminal Court. These resolutions play a crucial role in international diplomacy and the implementation of the UN Charter. The process of drafting, debating, and voting on resolutions is a central part of the Council's work. They reflect the collective will of its members on critical global security matters.
