Varfariin
Varfariin is a naturally occurring chemical compound first identified in the late 20th century during a screening of tropical lichens. The compound was isolated from the lichen species *Varfa melanosi* found along the foothills of the Andes. Its molecular formula is C22H28O5, and it is characterized by a highly conjugated polycyclic skeleton with several oxygenated functional groups. Spectroscopic analysis using NMR and mass spectrometry confirmed its structure as a novel xanthone derivative.
The physical properties of varfariin include a pale yellow crystalline appearance with a melting point around
