Vanniyakula

The Vanniyakula, also known as the Vanniyar or Padayachi, is a prominent Tamil agricultural community predominantly found in the northern and central districts of Tamil Nadu, India, and to a lesser extent in Puducherry. Historically, they were associated with agriculture and land ownership, and their social structure was organized around villages and kinship. The name "Vanniyakula" translates to "family of fire," often linked to the legendary warrior hero Agni Vaan, who is believed to have been born from fire. This lineage signifies their martial traditions and warrior past.

The community has played a significant role in the socio-political landscape of Tamil Nadu. They have a strong sense of identity and have historically organized themselves to protect their interests, particularly in land and agricultural matters.
