Vammalan

Vammala is a former municipality of Finland, located in the province of Western Finland and in the region of Pirkanmaa. The municipality had a population of 5,720 and it covered an area of 1,361.89 square kilometers.

The municipality was located in the Bruslan region, and its capital was Vammala. The neighboring municipalities were Ikaalinen to the west, Punkalaidun to the northwest, Huittinen to the north, Kokemäki to the northeast, and Yläne to the east.

In 2009, the municipality of Vammala merged with the municipality of Ikaalinen to form a new municipality, Ikaalinen, which is located in the Pirkanmaa region. As a result of the merger, the former municipality of Vammala lost its independent status and is now a part of the Ikaalinen municipality.

Vammala was located in the region of Avoin Pirkanmaa, which is a characteristic cultural area in southern Finland known for its traditional folk music and clothing. The municipality had a diverse economy with several manufacturing industries and agricultural activities.

The former municipality of Vammala was known for its natural beauty, with numerous lakes, forests, and hills. The municipality was also home to several historical sites, including the 16th-century Vammala Castle, which was destroyed in the Great Wrath in 1596.

The language spoken in the region was Western Finnish, and the local dialect, known as Iso-Suomalainen, is still spoken by some residents. Today, the former municipality of Vammala is a part of the larger Ikaalinen municipality, which continues to preserve the local culture and traditions.
