Valtimoperäisten is a Finnish term that translates to "vascular" or "having a vascular system." In biological contexts, it refers to organisms that possess specialized tissues for transporting water, nutrients, and other essential substances throughout their bodies. This vascular system is a defining characteristic of many plant species and is crucial for their survival and growth.

The vascular system in plants consists primarily of two types of tissues: xylem and phloem. Xylem is responsible for conducting water and dissolved minerals from the roots upwards to the rest of the plant, while phloem transports sugars produced during photosynthesis from the leaves to other parts of the plant where they are needed for energy or storage.
