Valgusleegidetektorid are devices designed to detect the presence of flames by sensing the electromagnetic radiation they emit. These detectors operate by identifying specific wavelengths of light in the ultraviolet (UV), visible, or infrared (IR) spectrum that are characteristic of combustion. Different types of flame detectors are sensitive to different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.

UV flame detectors are highly sensitive and react quickly to flames, as UV radiation is produced abundantly by most combustion processes. A combination of UV and IR sensors can be used in hybrid flame detectors to enhance reliability and reduce false alarms, by requiring confirmation from both sensing mechanisms. Flame detectors are crucial safety devices used in a wide range of industrial and commercial applications, including oil and gas facilities, chemical plants, power generation stations, and aircraft hangars, where early detection of fire is critical to prevent catastrophic damage and protect lives. The selection of a specific type of flame detector depends on the potential fire hazards present in the environment, including the types of fuels, potential ignition sources, and environmental conditions.
