A vakuutussopimus, or insurance contract, is a legally binding agreement between an insurance company (the insurer) and a policyholder (the insured). The contract outlines the terms under which the insurer agrees to compensate the insured for specified losses, damages, or liabilities in exchange for premium payments. Insurance contracts are fundamental in risk management, providing financial protection against unforeseen events such as accidents, illnesses, property damage, or liability claims.

The core elements of a vakuutussopimus typically include the insured’s details, the scope of coverage, exclusions, premium amount, payment terms, and the conditions for claiming compensation.
