Vaihteistoöljyt

Vaihteistoöljyt, also known as transmission fluids, are specialized lubricants designed for the internal components of manual and automatic transmissions. Their primary function is to reduce friction and wear between gears, bearings, and other moving parts, ensuring smooth operation and longevity of the transmission system. In addition to lubrication, vaihteistoöljyt also play a crucial role in cooling the transmission by dissipating heat generated during operation.

Different types of transmissions require specific vaihteistoöljyt. Manual transmissions typically use gear oil, which has a higher viscosity and is formulated to withstand extreme pressure conditions. Automatic transmissions, on the other hand, use automatic transmission fluid (ATF), which has a lower viscosity and is designed to also act as a hydraulic fluid, enabling the transmission's complex shifting mechanisms. ATF also contains additives that prevent foaming and protect seals.

The condition and level of vaihteistoöljyt are critical for proper transmission function. Over time, the fluid can degrade due to heat and contamination, losing its lubricating and protective properties. This can lead to increased wear, shifting problems, and eventually transmission failure. Regular inspection and replacement of vaihteistoöljyt, according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations, is essential for maintaining the health of the transmission. Checking the fluid level and condition is usually done by referencing the dipstick or a dedicated plug.
