Vaihejännite

Vaihejännite refers to the voltage between one phase conductor and the neutral conductor in a three-phase electrical system. In many power distribution systems, three-phase power is delivered through multiple conductors, typically including phase conductors and a neutral conductor. The neutral conductor is often connected to ground at the source and sometimes at multiple points along the distribution line. This creates a reference point for voltage measurement.

The value of vaihejännite is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of electrical equipment designed to run on single-phase power. Many appliances, such as household lighting and standard electrical outlets, are connected between one of the phase conductors and the neutral conductor, thus utilizing the vaihejännite. This is in contrast to the line voltage, which is the voltage measured between any two phase conductors. The line voltage in a balanced three-phase system is typically the vaihejännite multiplied by the square root of three (approximately 1.732).

Understanding vaihejännite is important for electricians and engineers when designing and troubleshooting electrical installations. It directly impacts the selection of appropriate voltage-rated equipment and ensures that power is delivered at the intended levels. For instance, in a 230/400V three-phase system, 230V is the vaihejännite, and 400V is the line voltage.
