Vadis is a Latin word that appears as the second person singular present indicative of the verb vadō, meaning "you go" or "you are going." The phrase quo vadis? translates to "whither are you going?" and is best known from both historical usage and popular culture.

The most famous cultural reference to vadis is the phrase Quo Vadis, which became widely known through Henryk Sienkiewicz’s 1896 historical novel Quo Vadis. The novel is set in Nero’s Rome and centers on the early Christian community, martyrdom, and the tension between Roman imperial authority and Christian faith.
