VLANübergreifenden

VLANübergreifenden refers to communication or traffic that spans across multiple Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs). VLANs are used to segment a physical network into smaller, logical broadcast domains. This segmentation enhances security and improves network performance by limiting broadcast traffic. However, in many scenarios, devices in different VLANs need to communicate with each other.

This is where VLANübergreifenden functionality comes into play. Enabling VLANübergreifenden communication typically requires a Layer 3 device, such as a router or a multilayer switch. These devices can route traffic between different IP subnets, which are usually associated with individual VLANs. When a device in one VLAN sends a packet to a device in another VLAN, the packet is sent to the default gateway for its VLAN. This gateway is usually an interface on the router or multilayer switch. The Layer 3 device then examines the destination IP address and forwards the packet to the appropriate VLAN based on its routing tables.

Common methods for achieving VLANübergreifenden communication include router-on-a-stick, where a single router interface is configured with multiple subinterfaces, each assigned to a different VLAN, and Layer 3 switches, which have built-in routing capabilities allowing them to route traffic directly between VLANs. Proper configuration of IP addressing, subnet masks, and routing protocols is essential for seamless VLANübergreifenden operations. Security policies can also be implemented at the Layer 3 device to control which inter-VLAN traffic is permitted.
