VJRekombination refers to a process within certain biological systems involving the rearrangement of genetic material. This mechanism is a type of genetic recombination, which is fundamental to processes like sexual reproduction and DNA repair. In the context of VJRekombination, the "VJ" often denotes specific segments of genetic sequences that are involved in the recombination event. These segments, typically V (variable) and J (joining) gene segments, are characteristic of the immunoglobulin genes found in the adaptive immune system of vertebrates.

The VJRekombination process is crucial for generating the vast diversity of antibodies and T-cell receptors required to recognize a wide array of foreign antigens. During the development of B cells and T cells, these V and J gene segments, along with sometimes a D (diversity) segment in the case of heavy chain immunoglobulin genes, are randomly selected and joined together.
