VARKmallissa

Varkmallissa is a small uninhabited island located in the eastern part of the Bosphorus, a strait in Northwest Turkey that separates Europe and Asia. The island is part of the Istanbul metropolitan area, but it has no permanent residents.

Geologically, Varkmallissa is an artificial island, formed through the dredging and landfilling of rocks and soil along the Bosphorus shoreline. As such, it has a relatively flat topography and is roughly 300 meters long and 150 meters wide.

The island is nameless and only recently has been referred to by its current moniker, derived from local residents who used to reside nearby. Due to its completely uninhabited status, there are no official sources of information about the island's history, etymology, or any named territories.

The waters around the island and surrounding seabed area have been designated as Special Protection Zones under Turkey's Higher Planning Organization (DHOM), thus receiving protection for the restored wetlands and former sea walls they provided, largely because of deteriorating natural mangrove forests that gained restoration in these areas.
