Vérkészítményekkel is a Hungarian term referring to blood products or blood preparations. These are biological materials derived from human or animal blood and used for therapeutic, diagnostic, or research purposes. Human blood products are typically collected from volunteer donors and processed in specialized blood banks or laboratories.

The most common blood product is whole blood, which can be transfused directly to patients. However, whole blood is often separated into its various components, such as red blood cells, platelets, plasma, and cryoprecipitate. Each component has specific medical applications. Red blood cell concentrate is used to treat anemia and blood loss. Platelet concentrate helps to control bleeding in patients with low platelet counts. Plasma, rich in clotting factors, is used to manage bleeding disorders and severe burns. Cryoprecipitate is a source of specific clotting factors.

Plasma can also be further processed to derive plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs), like albumin, immunoglobulins, and clotting factor concentrates. Albumin is used to restore blood volume and treat certain liver and kidney conditions. Immunoglobulins, or antibodies, are used to treat immune deficiencies and autoimmune diseases. Clotting factor concentrates are vital for patients with hemophilia and other factor deficiencies.

The use of blood products carries certain risks, including transfusion reactions and the transmission of infectious agents. Rigorous screening of donors and testing of donated blood are crucial to minimize these risks. Strict manufacturing and quality control processes are also in place for PDMPs.

In addition to therapeutic uses, blood products are also employed in diagnostic tests. For example, blood typing and crossmatching, essential for safe transfusions, involve analyzing components of blood. Research applications include the study of blood disorders, development of new treatments, and scientific investigations into various biological processes.
