This effect is not a stable, uniform color change but rather a transient play of hues.

The underlying cause of värisekoituksessa is typically related to the stone's internal structure and the presence of microscopic inclusions or growth patterns. These imperfections can refract and diffract light in a way that produces ephemeral color flashes. In sapphires, for instance, it might be linked to pleochroism, where the gemstone exhibits different colors when viewed along different crystallographic axes, but the effect in värisekoituksessa is less pronounced and more dynamic.
