Umbreytanlegar, also known as transformers, are a type of electrical device used to change the voltage of alternating current (AC). They work on the principle of electromagnetic induction. An electrical transformer consists of two or more coils of wire, called windings, that are electrically separated but magnetically linked by a core, usually made of iron. The winding connected to the AC power source is called the primary winding, and the winding connected to the load is called the secondary winding.

When an alternating current flows through the primary winding, it creates a changing magnetic field in the core. This changing magnetic field, in turn, induces a voltage in the secondary winding. The ratio of the number of turns in the primary winding to the number of turns in the secondary winding determines the ratio of the voltages. If the secondary winding has more turns than the primary, the voltage is stepped up. If it has fewer turns, the voltage is stepped down. This voltage transformation is crucial for efficient transmission and distribution of electrical power. High voltages are used for long-distance transmission to minimize power loss due to resistance in the wires, and then these voltages are stepped down at substations and by local transformers for safe use in homes and businesses. Transformers are essential components in many electronic devices, power grids, and industrial applications.
