Udstødningsslaget

Udstødningsslaget is a term used in internal combustion engines to describe the final phase of the four-stroke cycle. This phase is also known as the exhaust stroke. During the exhaust stroke, the piston moves from the top dead center (TDC) towards the bottom dead center (BDC). The exhaust valve, which was closed during the intake and compression strokes, opens at the beginning of this stroke. The primary function of the exhaust stroke is to expel the burnt gases (exhaust gases) from the combustion chamber into the exhaust system. The upward movement of the piston pushes these gases out through the open exhaust valve. Once the piston reaches BDC, the exhaust valve closes, and the intake valve opens, initiating the next cycle of intake. Effective expulsion of exhaust gases is crucial for the engine's efficiency and performance, as residual gases can reduce the amount of fresh air-fuel mixture that can be drawn in during the subsequent intake stroke. The timing of the exhaust valve opening and closing, as well as the piston's movement, is precisely controlled by the camshaft and crankshaft.
