The secondary sector involves the processing of raw materials into finished or semi-finished goods. This is the domain of manufacturing, construction, and energy production. The tertiary sector, also known as the service sector, focuses on providing intangible goods and services. This includes a wide range of activities such as retail, wholesale, transportation, finance, healthcare, education, tourism, and information technology. As economies develop, the tertiary sector typically grows in importance, employing a larger portion of the workforce and contributing significantly to GDP. Some classifications also include a quaternary sector for information-based services and a quinary sector for high-level decision-making and research.
