Tæthedsfaktor

Tæthedsfaktor, often translated as "duty cycle" or "fill factor," is a term used in electrical engineering and signal processing to describe the proportion of time a periodic signal is active or "on" compared to the total duration of one period. It is typically expressed as a percentage or a decimal value between 0 and 1. A tæthedsfaktor of 100% or 1 means the signal is always on, while a tæthedsfaktor of 0% or 0 means the signal is always off.

The concept is particularly relevant for pulsed signals, such as those used in power electronics, digital communication, and motor control. For instance, in a pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal, the tæthedsfaktor determines the average voltage or power delivered. A higher tæthedsfaktor in a PWM signal leads to a higher average output, while a lower tæthedsfaktor results in a lower average output.

Mathematically, the tæthedsfaktor (often denoted by D or m) is calculated by dividing the duration of the "on" time (t_on) by the total period (T) of the signal: D = t_on / T. The period T is the sum of the "on" time and the "off" time (t_off), so T = t_on + t_off. Therefore, the tæthedsfaktor can also be expressed as D = t_on / (t_on + t_off).

Understanding and controlling the tæthedsfaktor is crucial for efficiently managing power, regulating voltage and current, and encoding information in various electronic systems. It allows for precise control over the output characteristics of devices by varying the width of the pulses without altering their frequency.
