Tændspolerne

Tændspolerne, often translated as ignition coils, are a crucial component in gasoline engines. Their primary function is to convert the low voltage from the vehicle's battery into the high voltage required to create an electric spark. This spark is generated at the spark plug, igniting the fuel-air mixture within the engine's combustion chamber. Without this ignition, the engine cannot run.

Each cylinder in a gasoline engine typically has its own dedicated tændspole, or sometimes one coil serves two cylinders in a "waste spark" system. The tændspole works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When current flows through the primary winding of the coil, it creates a magnetic field. This current is then rapidly interrupted, causing the magnetic field to collapse. This collapse induces a much higher voltage in the secondary winding, which is then delivered to the spark plug.

Symptoms of failing tændspoler can include a rough idle, misfires, poor acceleration, reduced fuel economy, and the illumination of the check engine light. Diagnosing a faulty tændspole usually involves checking for spark at the affected cylinder or using diagnostic tools to read fault codes. Replacing a faulty tændspole is a common maintenance task that helps restore engine performance and efficiency.
