Tähtisysteemi

Tähtisysteemi is a Finnish term that translates to "star system" in English. It refers to a set of celestial bodies that are gravitationally bound to a star or stars. The most common type of star system is a planetary system, which consists of one or more stars and the planets that orbit them. Our own solar system is an example of a planetary system, with the Sun at its center and eight planets orbiting it.

Beyond planetary systems, a star system can also include other objects such as dwarf planets, asteroids, comets, and moons. In some cases, star systems can be more complex, featuring multiple stars that orbit each other. These are known as multiple star systems, such as binary stars (two stars orbiting each other) or triple star systems. The gravitational interactions within a star system dictate the orbits and stability of its components. Studying star systems helps astronomers understand the formation and evolution of planets and galaxies. The term "tähtisysteemi" encompasses the entire gravitationally bound collective around a star or stars.
