Työttömyysetuja

Työttömyysetuja are social benefits provided in Finland to individuals who are unemployed. These benefits aim to secure the livelihood of unemployed individuals and support their re-entry into the labor market. The primary työttömyysetuja are unemployment benefits (työttömyyspäiväraha) and labor market support (työmarkkinatuki).

Unemployment benefits are earnings-related and are paid by unemployment funds (työttömyyskassat) to members who have accumulated sufficient work history and earnings. The amount of the benefit is based on previous income. Labor market support is a non-contributory benefit, meaning it is not dependent on previous earnings, and is paid by Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. It is intended for those who do not qualify for earnings-related unemployment benefits or whose entitlement has expired.

To receive työttömyysetuja, an individual must be registered as a jobseeker with the employment and economic development office (TE-toimisto) and actively seek work. Conditions for receiving benefits include availability for work and participation in employment services. The duration for which these benefits can be received is typically limited, with various rules applying to different types of benefits and individual circumstances. The goal of these benefits is to provide a safety net while encouraging individuals to find new employment.
