Työeläkeyhtiöt

Työeläkeyhtiöt are Finnish companies responsible for managing statutory earnings-related pension insurance. They collect contributions from employers and employees, invest these funds, and pay out pension benefits to individuals when they retire or become unable to work. These companies operate on a non-profit basis, meaning any surplus generated is used to lower future contribution costs or to strengthen the pension fund's financial position.

There are both private and public sector työeläkeyhtiöt. The selection of a työeläkeyhtiö is generally made by the employer, though some employees may have a choice depending on their employment sector. The Finnish Centre for Pensions (Eläketurvakeskus) oversees the entire system, sets regulations, and provides guidance to the työeläkeyhtiöt. The purpose of these companies is to ensure the long-term solvency and sustainability of the Finnish earnings-related pension system. Their investment activities are crucial for covering future pension liabilities, and they are subject to strict regulatory frameworks to protect policyholders' interests.
