Tvävägstrafik refers to traffic that flows in two opposite directions along a single road or path. This is the most common form of traffic organization on public roads, allowing vehicles to travel in both directions simultaneously. In contrast to envägsgata, where traffic is restricted to a single direction, two-way traffic necessitates clear lane markings, signage, and often physical barriers to delineate opposing flows and ensure safety.

The design of roads accommodating two-way traffic considers factors such as width, visibility, and the potential for head-on collisions. Features like center lines, passing lanes, and designated turning lanes are implemented to manage the interaction between vehicles traveling in opposite directions. The speed limit on two-way roads is often lower than on comparable one-way roads due to the inherent risks associated with oncoming traffic.

In situations where two-way traffic is not feasible or safe, such as on very narrow streets or in specific urban areas, traffic may be converted to one-way.
