Tuotantosääntöjen, which translates to "production rules" in English, is a term used in formal grammar and computational linguistics to describe the components of a context-free grammar. These rules specify how symbols in a language can be rewritten or expanded. A typical production rule has the form A -> β, where A is a non-terminal symbol (a variable representing a syntactic category or a part of a sentence structure) and β is a sequence of terminal symbols (the actual words or tokens of the language) and/or non-terminal symbols. The arrow signifies "can be replaced by" or "derives."

For instance, in a simplified English grammar, a rule like "Sentence -> NounPhrase VerbPhrase" indicates that a sentence can be formed by a noun phrase followed by a verb phrase. Another rule, "NounPhrase -> Determiner Noun," shows that a noun phrase can consist of a determiner followed by a noun. These rules are fundamental to defining the syntax of a language and are used in parsers to analyze sentences and determine if they are grammatically correct according to the defined grammar. The set of all such production rules constitutes the grammar of a language.
