Tuotantokäyrä

A tuotantokäyrä, which translates to production possibility frontier (PPF) in English, is an economic model that illustrates the maximum possible output combinations of two goods or services that an economy can achieve when all its resources are fully and efficiently utilized. It represents the trade-offs an economy faces when deciding how to allocate its scarce resources between the production of different goods.

The curve itself is typically depicted as a downward-sloping, concave curve. The downward slope signifies that to produce more of one good, an economy must give up some production of the other good, demonstrating the concept of opportunity cost. The concavity arises from the law of increasing opportunity cost, which states that as production of one good increases, the opportunity cost of producing an additional unit of that good rises. This is because resources are not perfectly substitutable between the production of different goods.

Points on the tuotantokäyrä represent efficient levels of production, meaning all available resources are being used to their full potential. Points inside the curve indicate inefficiency or underutilization of resources, where it is possible to increase the production of both goods. Points outside the curve are unattainable with current resources and technology. Economic growth, through technological advancements or an increase in available resources, can shift the tuotantokäyrä outwards, allowing for greater production of both goods.
