Tuletõkke

Tuletõkke refers to fire barriers or fire-resistant construction elements used to prevent the spread of fire. The term originates from Estonian, where "tule" means fire and "tõkke" means barrier or obstacle. In construction and safety contexts, tuletõkke are designed to compartmentalize buildings, creating zones that can contain a fire for a specified period, allowing occupants time to evacuate and firefighters to respond.

These barriers can take various forms, including fire-resistant walls, floors, doors, and ceilings. They are constructed from materials that have been tested and certified to withstand fire for a certain duration, often rated in minutes or hours (e.g., EI60, meaning it resists fire integrity and insulation for 60 minutes). The effectiveness of tuletõkke relies on their ability to maintain their structural integrity and prevent the passage of flames, smoke, and heat.

The implementation of tuletõkke is a crucial aspect of building fire safety regulations in many countries. Proper installation and maintenance are essential for their performance. In Estonia and similar regions, building codes mandate the use of appropriate tuletõkke based on the building's type, occupancy, and size to minimize fire-related risks and protect lives and property.
