Tuletusosast, also known as the respiratory system, is a vital component of the human body responsible for the exchange of gases between the body and the environment. It consists of a series of organs and structures that work together to facilitate breathing and gas exchange. The primary organs of the respiratory system include the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs.

The respiratory system begins with the nose, which filters and warms incoming air and also plays a role in olfaction. The air then passes through the pharynx and larynx, where it is further filtered and humidified. The larynx contains the vocal cords and is the site of sound production. The trachea, or windpipe, connects the larynx to the bronchi, which branch into smaller bronchioles that lead to the alveoli in the lungs.

The lungs are the primary sites of gas exchange. They are divided into two main lobes and are responsible for taking in oxygen from the inhaled air and expelling carbon dioxide. The alveoli are tiny air sacs where the exchange of gases occurs. The diaphragm, a dome-shaped muscle located below the lungs, plays a crucial role in breathing by contracting and expanding the chest cavity, facilitating the inhalation and exhalation of air.

The respiratory system is controlled by the brainstem, which sends signals to the muscles involved in breathing. The autonomic nervous system also plays a role in regulating breathing, particularly in response to changes in blood gas levels and pH.

Diseases and conditions affecting the respiratory system can range from common colds and flu to more serious conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and lung cancer. Proper respiratory health is essential for overall well-being and quality of life.
