Tulekustutusvahendid refer to devices and substances used to extinguish or control fires. The primary goal of a fire extinguisher is to remove one or more of the elements of the fire triangle: heat, fuel, or oxygen. Different types of fire extinguishers are designed for specific classes of fires, which are categorized based on the type of combustible material.

Common types of fire extinguishers include water extinguishers, which are effective against Class A fires involving ordinary combustibles like wood and paper. Foam extinguishers are suitable for Class A and Class B fires, which involve flammable liquids such as gasoline and oil. Dry chemical extinguishers are versatile and can be used on Class A, B, and C fires (electrical fires). Carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguishers are effective for Class B and C fires, as they displace oxygen and cool the fire without leaving a residue. Wet chemical extinguishers are specifically designed for Class K fires, involving cooking oils and fats in commercial kitchens.

Fire extinguishers are typically portable devices that contain an extinguishing agent under pressure. When activated, the agent is discharged through a nozzle. Regular inspection and maintenance of fire extinguishers are crucial to ensure their operability in an emergency. Proper training on how to use fire extinguishers is also essential for effective fire suppression. In larger fires or when there is doubt about personal safety, it is always recommended to evacuate and call the fire department.
