Tsitostaatide

Tsitostaatide, also known as tsitostatics, are a class of compounds that inhibit the growth of fungi. They are widely used in agriculture, particularly in the preservation of fruits and vegetables, to prevent postharvest diseases caused by fungi. The most well-known tsitostaatide is pentachloronitrobenzene (PCNB), which was once used extensively in the United States but has since been banned due to its potential health risks. Other tsitostaatides include propiconazole, tebuconazole, and flusilazole, which are commonly used in modern agriculture to control fungal infections without the same level of health concern. These compounds work by interfering with the fungal cell membrane, leading to cell death. The use of tsitostaatides is regulated to ensure their safe and effective application in agricultural practices.
