Trägerfrequenz, often translated as carrier frequency, refers to the frequency of a signal that is used to transmit information. This carrier signal is a continuous wave that can be modulated, meaning its properties are altered to encode data. The modulation process allows the carrier wave to carry information from a transmitter to a receiver. Common modulation techniques include amplitude modulation (AM), frequency modulation (FM), and phase modulation (PM).

The choice of carrier frequency is crucial for effective signal transmission. Different frequencies have varying propagation characteristics, affecting their range, bandwidth, and susceptibility to interference.
