Trophont

Trophont is a term used in biology, particularly in parasitology, to describe the stage in a parasite's life cycle that is responsible for causing disease or symptoms in the host. This stage is often the mature or actively growing form of the parasite, as opposed to less active or reproductive stages. The trophont is typically the part of the parasite that feeds on the host's tissues or nutrients and replicates.

The characteristics and form of a trophont can vary significantly depending on the type of parasite. For example, in protozoan parasites like those that cause malaria or giardiasis, the trophont is the actively feeding and dividing stage within the host's cells or digestive tract.
