Trombocitatranszfúzió

Trombocitatranszfúzió, also known as platelet transfusion, is a medical procedure to treat or prevent bleeding in patients with low platelet counts. Platelets are small blood cells that play a crucial role in blood clotting. When a person's platelet count is too low, they are at a higher risk of serious bleeding.

This procedure involves transfusing concentrated platelets, which are collected from healthy donors or from the patient themselves in some cases (autologous transfusion). The goal is to temporarily increase the patient's platelet level to a sufficient point to stop or prevent bleeding.

Trombocitatranszfúzió is typically indicated for patients with thrombocytopenia, a condition characterized by a deficiency of platelets. This can occur due to various reasons, including chemotherapy, bone marrow disorders, certain infections, or severe blood loss. It is also used during major surgeries or in cases of significant trauma where excessive bleeding is a concern.

The transfusion is administered intravenously, usually over a period of 30 to 60 minutes. While generally safe, potential side effects can include allergic reactions, fever, or the development of antibodies against the transfused platelets, which can reduce the effectiveness of future transfusions. Careful monitoring of the patient's response and platelet count is essential after the procedure.
