Trimurtis

The Trimurti is a concept in Hinduism representing the three principal deities: Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer. These three gods are considered to be the manifestations of the supreme cosmic spirit, Brahman. While distinct in their roles, they are often seen as a unified force that governs the cycle of creation, maintenance, and destruction of the universe.

Brahma is typically depicted with four heads, symbolizing his knowledge of the Vedas and his role in creating the cosmos. Vishnu is usually shown with blue skin and four arms, holding a discus, conch shell, mace, and lotus, representing his power and compassion in maintaining cosmic order and protecting righteousness. Shiva is often portrayed with a third eye on his forehead and a serpent around his neck, embodying his power to destroy and regenerate, as well as his ascetic nature.

The Trimurti concept highlights the cyclical nature of existence within Hindu cosmology. The continuous cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction is essential for the universe's functioning and evolution. Although distinct deities, their combined activity is seen as a single, overarching divine process. While this triad is a prominent representation of divinity, the emphasis on each deity can vary among different Hindu traditions.
