Trianguli

Trianguli is the genitive form of Triangulum, the Latin name for triangle, and is used in astronomical naming to indicate that a star or object belongs to the Triangulum constellation. In star catalogs, a designation such as Alpha Trianguli or Beta Trianguli identifies the star as being in Triangulum, with the genitive form appended to the constellation name.

Triangulum is a small northern constellation representing a triangle. It is one of the 88 modern constellations and lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. The three brighter stars form a distinct triangular asterism, making the pattern easy to recognize in suitable conditions. The constellation is visible from most of the northern hemisphere and is best observed during autumn evenings from mid-latitudes.

The most famous object associated with Triangulum is the Triangulum Galaxy, also known as Messier 33. It is a spiral galaxy located about 2.7 million light-years away and is a member of the Local Group, along with the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way. M33 is one of the closest spiral galaxies to the Milky Way and is frequently studied to understand star formation and galactic structure. The region around Triangulum also hosts various fainter stars and deep-sky objects, contributing to its scientific interest despite the constellation’s modest size.
