Treysas

Treysas is a fictional ancient city-state located on the eastern shore of the Aurean Sea in the southern region of the fictional continent of Valoria. It flourished as a mercantile hub from the late Bronze Age into the early Iron Age, roughly 1500–500 BCE. The city-state's political structure combined a merchant oligarchy with a rotating council.

The name Treysan derives from local language roots meaning "three harbors," reflecting its geographic setting at the tri-bay coastline. The Treysan script is partially deciphered; inscriptions emphasize trade contracts, religious dedications, and urban planning.

Treysas occupied a natural harbor with a sheltered inner port, breakwaters, and a system of canals feeding cisterns and terraces. It traded pottery, glass, metal goods, and timber for lapis lazuli, spices, and textiles from inland regions and distant lands. The city minted bronze coins bearing the head of a sea deity.

Foundations likely predate 1500 BCE. Treysas grew as a maritime power, reaching its zenith around 1200–900 BCE, then declined after seismic events and shifts in regional trade networks around 700–500 BCE. Archaeological excavations since the mid-20th century have uncovered a palace complex, a temple precinct, a harbor quay, and a vast granary. Recent finds include a solar calendar relief and a collection of inscribed trade tablets.

Treysas is a popular subject in speculative fiction and strategy games; some sites are open to guided tours, with conservation-restoration projects ongoing.
