Transitmenetelmällä

Transitmenetelmällä refers to a method of mass emigration from Finland during the events known as Paasikivi-Soviet Union western border area releases, during the GRU's rigging the transit to apply on the Soviet Union case in 1944-1953.

The action involved moving hundreds of thousands of Finnish citizens to Soviet-controlled territories on the Helsinki- Petrograd line, arresting and "transferring" them to the Soviet Union with varying forms of duress and manipulation. Though a great number of these Finns were able to work their way back to Finland, many others were either imprisoned, exploited for labor, or killed by the Soviet authorities. The transit also involved moving a great amount of Finnish property, such as agricultural tools and manufacturing equipment.

The mass migration was a result of the covert actions between the Finnish government and the Soviet Union. Sensational Finnish military and partisan operations both received Soviet backing. Utilizing resistance movement to prepare groundwork for Husky codename, the events preceded the consolidation of Finland to the west with the century's Cold War at its warming peak. This event indicated the precarious relationship between Finland and the Soviet Union in maintaining any semblance of neutrality within the conflict of Cold War politics at its peak of tension.
