Tolyyl
Tolyyl is a chemical term referring to a univalent radical derived from toluene by removal of a hydrogen atom from the methyl group or from the aromatic ring. When the hydrogen is removed from the methyl group, the resulting tolyyl radical is specifically called a tolyl group or tolyl radical. There are three possible isomers for this group, depending on which hydrogen atom is removed from the methyl group. When a hydrogen atom is removed from the aromatic ring, the resulting radical is also referred to as a tolyl radical, and there are six possible isomers depending on the position of the methyl group and the removed hydrogen atom.
