Toidutermomeeter is a device used to measure the internal temperature of food to ensure it is cooked safely and to the desired doneness. In home kitchens and professional settings, it helps prevent foodborne illness by verifying that pathogens are unlikely to survive and supports consistent results.

Most toidutermomeeters fall into a few main categories: dial or digital probe thermometers, which stay in the food while it cooks or rests; instant-read thermometers, which provide a quick measurement after insertion; infrared thermometers, which measure surface temperature without contact but do not reflect internal doneness; and wireless or Bluetooth models that transmit readings to a display or app.

Using a toidutermomeeter typically involves inserting the probe into the thickest part of the food, away from bone, fat, and gristle, and allowing a few seconds to stabilize for an accurate reading. Care and maintenance include washing the probe with soap and water after use, avoiding submerging electronics, replacing batteries as needed, and storing the device in a clean, dry place to prevent cross-contamination between raw and cooked foods.
