Tlaxcalla, often spelled Tlaxcala, is a state in east-central Mexico. It is the smallest state in Mexico by area and is bordered by Puebla to the south and east, Hidalgo to the north, and Mexico State to the west. Its capital city is also named Tlaxcala.
