Tjunktions

Tjunktions is a term found in some Scandinavian-language technical literature to denote a junction where three segments meet in a T-shaped configuration. It can refer to a physical intersection, a pipe or electrical conduit node, or a schematic node in a diagram or graph.

In network topology, a tjunktion is typically modeled as a degree-3 vertex. One edge acts as the stem, continuing in a principal direction, while the other two form the arms of the T. In diagrams the stem is often drawn as a straight line and the arms branch at a right angle, though the exact geometry varies with scale and conventions.

Applications span transportation planning (T-junctions where a side road meets a main road), plumbing and drainage networks, electrical distribution, and data-flow or circuit diagrams. In graph theory the node is a three-valent vertex, and its presence affects local connectivity and path choices.

Tjunktions are related to other junction concepts such as Y-junctions, which have three branches arranged more symmetrically, and cross junctions, where four arms intersect. The English-language equivalent is usually termed a T-junction or three-way junction; the term “junktion” itself is a loanword from Scandinavian languages.
