Tiivistymistarve refers to the phenomenon of a gas or vapor condensing into a liquid. This process occurs when the partial pressure of the vapor exceeds its saturation vapor pressure at a given temperature. Saturation vapor pressure is the pressure at which the liquid and gaseous phases of a substance are in equilibrium at a specific temperature. When conditions lead to a higher vapor pressure than this equilibrium point, the molecules in the gaseous phase lose energy and clump together to form a liquid.

Several factors contribute to tiivistymistarve. Cooling is a primary driver; as a gas cools, its saturation vapor pressure decreases. If the actual vapor pressure remains constant or decreases at a slower rate than the saturation vapor pressure, condensation will occur.
