Thermotoleráns refers to organisms or substances capable of withstanding high temperatures without significant loss of viability or functional activity. In microbiology, thermotolerant microbes—such as certain bacteria (e.g., *Bacillus* species) and archaea—produce heat-resistant spores or enzymes that enable survival in extreme heat environments. In biotechnology, thermotolerant enzymes (e.g., Taq polymerase used in polymerase chain reaction) retain activity at elevated temperatures, facilitating DNA amplification and other molecular biology tasks. Industrial applications include food processing (e.g., sterilization of canned goods) and biofuel production, where heat-resistant microorganisms enhance efficiency.
