Termogravimetrisellä

Termogravimetrinen is a Finnish term referring to thermogravimetry. Thermogravimetry is an analytical technique used to measure the change in mass of a sample as a function of temperature or time in a controlled atmosphere. This technique is valuable for studying the thermal stability of materials, decomposition processes, and determining the composition of a sample.

In a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), a sample is placed in a crucible that is suspended from a sensitive balance. The crucible and sample are then heated or cooled at a controlled rate, and their mass is continuously recorded. The resulting data is plotted as a graph of mass versus temperature or time. Deviations from a constant mass indicate a physical or chemical change occurring within the sample.

Common applications of thermogravimetry include the analysis of polymers, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, and inorganic compounds. It can be used to quantify the amount of moisture or volatile components in a material, to identify the decomposition products of a substance, and to determine the kinetics of thermal degradation. The atmosphere surrounding the sample can be varied (e.g., inert gas like nitrogen or reactive gas like oxygen) to influence the observed mass changes and provide further insight into the material's behavior. TGA is often used in conjunction with other thermal analysis techniques like differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) for a more comprehensive understanding of material properties.
