Termaikos

Termaikos is a term that can refer to several things, primarily related to the region of Thermaikos in Greece. The Thermaikos Gulf is a large bay in the northern Aegean Sea, located off the coast of Macedonia. It is named after the ancient city of Therma, which was located near the site of modern-day Thessaloniki. The gulf is an important fishing area and a significant maritime route.

The Municipality of Thermaikos is a local government unit within the Thessaloniki regional unit of Central Macedonia. It was formed in a 2011 local government reform by the merger of three former municipalities: Epanomi, Mikra, and Thermaikos. The municipality's administrative center is in Nea Michaniona. This administrative region encompasses coastal areas and agricultural lands, with a population engaged in fishing, agriculture, and tourism.

Historically, the Thermaikos region has played a role in ancient Greek history and the Byzantine Empire, largely due to its proximity to Thessaloniki. The ancient port of Therma was a notable settlement, and its strategic location likely contributed to the development of the wider area. Today, the name Termaikos is most commonly associated with the geographical features and administrative divisions of the region in northern Greece.
