The most common HD resolutions are 720p and 1080p. The "p" in these resolutions stands for progressive scan, meaning each frame is displayed as a complete picture in a single pass. This contrasts with interlaced scanning (denoted by "i"), where odd and even lines of the image are displayed alternately, which can sometimes lead to motion artifacts.
